Staff shortage puts pressure on Dutch healthcare

Spanish healthcare professionals can save the quality and accessibility of care.

There’s no debate about it: the Dutch healthcare sector is in crisis. This year alone, the industry is facing a shortage of 49.000 healthcare workers. This scarcity only threatens to get worse in the future. ABF Research predicts that – due to a rapidly aging population – the shortage will reach 135.000 by 2031. There’s an urgent need for solutions and hiring Spanish healthcare professionals is one of them.

The situation above may seem especially advantageous for the Dutch healthcare system, but as a Spanish healthcare professional, there are also many advantages to be gained in the Netherlands:

1. Job security & freedom of choice

There are a lot (really a lot!) of job openings in the Netherlands, and this number will only increase in the future. As a result, you don’t have to worry about finding a job. Since the tightness prevails within various healthcare institutions, you can also enjoy freedom of choice. Whether you want to work in a hospital, a nursing home, youth care or disability care, it’s all possible. In the Netherlands, you are sure to find a job that suits your interests and specializations.

2. Financial progress & stability

Figures from Euronews show that a nurse in Spain earned an average of €39.912 in 2020. In the Netherlands, that salary was €60.050. So moving to the Netherlands can give you a nice financial advantage. Moreover, there are also a lot of permanent jobs in healthcare, which offers you financial stability.

3. Support from specialized recruitment agencies

Numerous other Spanish healthcare professionals already took the step and moved to the Netherlands for their healthcare careers. Meanwhile, the country has all kinds of recruitment agencies, such as Blink, that specialize solely in Spanish healthcare profiles. Blink not only helps you get a job, but also makes your integration easier in other ways.

For example, they will pay for a Dutch course for you and help you find housing, among other things. And most importantly: they appreciate and respect you as a person!
